La Selle Management Plan (southeast Haiti), a conservation and natural resource enhancement program for the massif, coordinated by CATIE. ArkoConsulting conducted drone missions in eight areas (February-March 2020), producing 2D orthophotographs, aerial footage, and a 20-minute documentary video.

Geospatial data and visual materials produced have been integrated into the technical documentation of the Management Plan for La Visite National Park in Haiti.

Project description

Eight zones of the La Selle Reserve documented by drone

The CATIE (Tropical Agricultural Research and Higher Education Center) commissioned ArkoConsulting to conduct aerial drone surveys and produce high-quality orthophotographs covering eight intervention zones of the La Selle Management Plan in southeastern Haiti.

The La Selle Management Plan aims to preserve and enhance the natural resources of the La Selle massif in southeastern Haiti, an area characterized by a mosaic of productive systems — irrigated perimeters, dry forest, charcoal production, coffee cultivation, yam and avocado crops, coastal fishing, agroforestry — and by increasing environmental pressures. CATIE, a Costa Rican institution specializing in tropical agronomic research, coordinated phase 2 of this management plan and required updated geospatial data to support the territorial mapping study.

ArkoConsulting conducted aerial drone reconnaissance missions in eight distinct zones between February and March 2020: Anse à Pitre (irrigated perimeter, dry forest), Tiootte (coffee cultivation, forested areas), pine forest and maritime crops, Grand Gosier (coastal, fishing, lagoon), Belle Anse (coastal, Pichon water source), Mapou basin mouth (agroforestry zones), La Visite and Marigot (coastal, port, banana crops). The mission produced high-quality 2D orthophotographs, aerial photographs, and documentary videos — a main production of 20 minutes plus two short versions for social media.

The geospatial data and visual materials produced were integrated into the technical documentation of the Management Plan to guide conservation and territorial development interventions in the La Selle massif.
