Baseline and GIS and drone mapping for the PMSAN in Haiti

P11
Start: Jul 01, 2020 (Completed)
End: Dec 31, 2021

Multi-Sectoral Programme for Food and Nutrition Security (PMSAN) funded by the 11th EDF (€40 million) in Northwest and Artibonite, Haiti. ArkoConsulting conducted the baseline study (92 days, IPC/nutrition surveys) and drone mapping (orthophotos, DSM, NDVI, 3D modeling, printed atlas) for a consortium of six operators coordinated by AGRER.

The baseline produced covers all the intervention municipalities and serves as the monitoring framework for the five-year program.

Project description

Baseline and aerial mapping for food security in Haiti's Northwest In the context of the Multisectoral Program for Food and Nutrition Security (PMSAN), funded by the 11th EDF to the tune of €40 million, AGRER commissioned ArkoConsulting to conduct the baseline study and drone mapping of three intervention zones in Haiti's Nord-Ouest and Artibonite departments. The PMSAN covers the communes of Bombardopolis, Baie-de-Henne, and Anse-Rouge in the Nord-Ouest department, and the communes of Terre-Neuve and Gros-Morne in Artibonite. A consortium of six operators — ACF, Concern Worldwide, Solidarités International, ACTED, WHH, and CATIE — is implementing integrated interventions in agriculture, nutrition, water and sanitation, and livelihood strengthening. Food security data in these areas had not been updated since 2016, making a rigorous baseline essential before activities began. ArkoConsulting deployed 92 days of data collection covering food consumption scores, IPC phases, vulnerability profiles, the prevalence of malnutrition among children under 5, and households' agricultural practices. At the same time, the team carried out drone surveys (orthophotos, digital elevation models, NDVI indices, 3D modeling) in the intervention zones, producing a printed cartographic atlas and a geospatial database. The baseline produced covers all the intervention communes and serves as the program's five-year monitoring reference.
